Benefits of Karaoke for Children
Yes, karaoke machines are fun, but there are also benefits for children doing karaoke, including:
- Helps them develop an appreciation (or love) for music
- Gives them practice reading and increases their vocabulary
- Keeps them active. The music will have them dancing in no time. It is a fun way to exercise.
- Promotes their self-confidence. Performing in a positive environment can help children believe in themselves.
- Relieves stress. Singing requires deep breathing which releases endorphins and in turn reduces tension.

Do You Need a Special Karaoke Machine for Kids?
While kids could use most home karaoke machines, there are some that are designed specifically for children. They have features that will make their experience more enjoyable (what I call bells and whistles below). The kid karaoke machines will also be more affordable.
How Old Should Kids Be For Karaoke?
In general, kids can start enjoying karaoke as young as 3 years old. They don’t have to be able to read on their own. They can just sing along to songs they know, make the words up as they go, or just have fun dancing. The little ones will be mesmerized by the light effects and laugh at some of the funny sounds they can make with the karaoke machines.
As they get older, they will be able to learn more songs and work on their performance in a fun and relaxed environment.
Features to Look for in Karaoke Machines for Kids
Bells and Whistles
Today’s kids will get bored quickly with your standard karaoke machine. They need features that will make it more fun. Many of the karaoke machines for children have features like disco lights and echo or other sound effects.
Think about whether you want a wired or wireless microphone. I would avoid wires with young kids as they could get tangled up in the wire and trip.
Check the number of microphones the karaoke machines come with. Young children may have a hard time sharing. If the machine you like does not have enough microphones, in most cases, you can purchase additional karaoke microphones as needed.
Power Source / Battery Life
Karaoke machines need power to operate. While you don’t have to worry about running out of power if the machine plugs into an outlet, a cord can be limiting. It’s not as portable as a karaoke machine that uses a battery. Be sure to check the battery life, as kids can get impatient when the battery dies.
The Best Karaoke Machines For Kids
There are many different options when it comes to kid-friendly karaoke machines and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. The child’s age, gender, and preferences will help determine the right karaoke machine.
Karaoke USA GF846 DVD/CDG/MP3G Karaoke Machine
Overall this is one of the more advanced kids karaoke machines on the market. It costs more than some of the other karaoke machines because it offers more. It has a 7 inch TFT (thin film transistor) digital color screen and 35W peak digital power amplifier (25W RMS ).
Kids will love the LED lights that synchronize with the rhythm of the music. The machine comes with two microphones so you are all set for duets. You can play music from CDs, CD+Gs, or any Bluetooth device and then record the voice and music mix. There is a remote control but you will need batteries.
Singing Machine Groove Mini Karaoke System (SML650BK)
Kids will be entertained for hours with the six voice-changing effects (echo, male, female, robot, chipmunk and radio) that come with this children’s karaoke machine. It also has multi-colored LED lights that synchronize to the music.
It’s easy to connect to your TV to see the scrolling lyrics using the RCA cable that comes with the karaoke machine. It also has a built-in speaker and a secure resting cradle to hold a tablet or mobile device. While it comes with one microphone, you can easily add an additional microphone for duets since there are two microphone inputs.
Best Karaoke Machine for Toddlers – KaraoKing Wireless Portable Karaoke Microphone with Bluetooth
Young children will love this cute karaoke machine. It has four voice-changing functions, so your child can choose to sound like an old man, a singing lady, or a funky robot! The rechargeable lithium battery will last up to 6 hours which will be plenty for little kids.
The microphone is made to fit perfectly in small hands. There are no wires or additional equipment, just connect to your smartphone using Bluetooth to play music. You can easily take it with you in the car or when traveling.
Best Karaoke Machine for Girls – Singing Machine Tabeoke ISM398 Portable Bluetooth Karaoke System
You don’t need a specific karaoke machine for girls, any of the options on this list will do. Just in case the girl that you are buying the karaoke machine for likes pink, this one is my favorite. Note that many other karaoke machines may also be available in pink and this karaoke machine is also available in other colors.
The Singing Machine Tabeoke model ISM398 is a fun and interactive experience for all. It has a built-in speaker and echo control for voice effects. You can play your music from any Bluetooth device or use the Singing Machine Mobile App (or any other karaoke app)!
This karaoke machine comes with one microphone, but you can easily add another one since there are two microphone jacks. If you want to use another external device, there is a line in jack but the cable is not included.

Singing Machine SML385UW Bluetooth Karaoke System with LED Disco Lights
If you take into consideration all this karaoke machine offers for the price, I think it is the best kids’ karaoke machine. Kids will love the LED disco light effect – it even has dimmer settings! The machine features a top-loading CD Player that plays music CDs and CD + G. It also has Bluetooth audio streaming and an auxiliary input to connect to other devices. There are RCA output jacks to connect to your TV to scroll the lyrics.
It comes with one microphone and two microphone jacks that have separate volume controls. If you are looking for a kids karaoke machine with 2 microphones, you will need to purchase another microphone separately. The built-in speaker provides powerful sound and the balance/echo/auto voice controls help you sound your best. It has USB connectivity to record your performance or play saved songs.
